Lamborghini delivers final Reventon to British customer

Lamborghini has cultivated an image for fast and exclusive supercars, but the Reventon broke the mold. Although rumors at one point suggested that the exotic automaker would increase the production run, Lamborghini stuck to its guns by producing just 20 examples as originally promised, all of which were spoken for almost immediately after the announcement was made despite a whopping million-euro price tag. Now the last one has rumbled out the factory gates in Sant’Agata Bolognese into the hands of one elated new owner.

Well, we’d be elated, but the car’s owner was instead described as “understandably delighted”. That’s British understatement for you. The car was sold from a dealership in Birmingham, England, which had the honor of hocking the only Reventon to make it to the car-crazed UK. Fortunately for British supercars fans, the owner - whose identity was not disclosed and his face blurred out in the photo - pledges to drive the machine and will start by driving it across Europe from Italy to Engand.

SEMA 2008: Supercar sightings from show floor

As much as we love its tires, we are really upset with Michelin. Where is the annual supercar lovefest that has been the Michelin SEMA booth? Last year’s display was an incredible assortment of stock, tuned and race vehicles from Audi, Chevrolet and Porsche. The year before that the Michelin booth had a Caparo T1, Koenigsegg, RUF, Saleen S7, McLaren F1, Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Zonda. Those are tough acts to follow for supercar fans, so Michelin just decided to stop trying and didn’t show this year. In all fairness, a lot of companies are absent or here with a much smaller setup. Something about the economy. Although it’s a little tougher now, it’s still possible for a SEMA showgoer to get a healthy dose of supercar exposure, though. It just takes a little more shoe leather or a click of your finger to see some of this year’s supercars in our gallery below. In it you’ll see cars from Mosler, Spyker, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Chevy, Factory Five, Porsche, Aston Martin and more. There were also quite a few race cars scattered around the halls this year that we thought you might like to see, as well. Check out the huge gallery by clicking on any image.

In the Autoblog Garage: Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

As we all know, there are supercars, and then… there’s the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. It has been called old and overweight, it has been called impractical and overpriced, it has been called out for its propensity to make 10-year-old boys lick its windows. When we got word that the LP640 would be stopping by the Autoblog Garage for a weekend, it was our chance to see if the childhood dream was still potent enough to answer adult desires. We’ve driven the Bugatti Veyron, Bentley Continental GT Speed, Porsche GT2, Corvette ZR1, Dodge Viper ACR and even Lambo’s own Gallardo LP560, and they were showstoppers. But when we finally met this Lambo, we had only one thing to say: Great googlymoogly!

A cock and bull story: more details on Lambo’s uber-car

The latest information on the Lamborghini supercar is that it derives its inspiration from the Lockheed F-22 Raptor, the most sophisticated attack aircraft in America’s aerial Air Force arsenal. As homage to the muse, the cars will be painted gray and fitted with stylized instrument panels. According to Piston Heads, the boys from Sant’ Agata (though they mention Modena) have admitted to be building such a car, but now only ten are coming to the US, not the 15 previously reported.

There were claims that the car would be shown to a tiny number of folks at this year’s Pebble Beach concourse. We were there and we can assure you that we didn’t see, read, or hear about a Raptor-inspired $1.5 million Lamborghini anywhere near Monterey. And we can’t imagine how such a secret could have been kept on a peninsula teeming with multi-millionaire car crazy collectors. We’ll all have to hold our breath until Frankfurt, and we cannot wait to see what this thing is and whether it’s worth more than four times the cost of an LP640.

From the rumormill: Lambo supercar has been seen

Straight from the keyboards of people you don’t know comes more “detailed” rumors of the Lamborghini supercar. Extracting the most compelling bits, it appears that the actual car hasn’t been seen, but a 1/25-scale model has been shown to an exceedingly select few at Pebble Beach last week and at the Santa Monica airport, along with a short video presentation.

The car will have LP640 doors and mirrors, but is otherwise completely new. Rumor is that it will have just 20 more horsepower than the LP640. The interior is said to be green — it’s military-inspired, right? In spite of that, the gut-wrenching magic of the car is supposed to be the instrument panel, which is only ever described in superlatives. “Amazing” and “insane” are the most common. No one has any details they can reveal, having signed a paper promising not to disclose the goods.

All 20 cars have been spoken for, and there’s a waiting list of 12. A gent from Manhattan Motorcars, purveyors of Lamborghinis, says that this car will return us to the days of Lamborghini posters plastering every suburban schoolboy’s walls. Of course, another poster wrote “jet plane cockpits are cool but for $1.5m shouldn’t it have ICBMs and an ejector seat?” Come on, Frankfurt.

Thanks for the tip, John!

VIDEO: Lamborghini gets a bath courtesy of city fountain

Click above to view video after the jump

We received over a dozen tips about a hot video including a Lamborghini Gallardo (good start) and some aqueous material of the municipal kind, so we had to see the motion pictures for ourselves. We pictured a hot yellow Lambo crashing into a huge fountain, or some scantily clad young lady giving the Italian supercar a bath, but we got none of the above. What we did see is some guy using a blue bucket to transport water from a homely looking city fountain and dousing it on his prized Gallardo. To complicate the news-worthiness of the video, it looks like it was captured with a camera phone, it’s shot from across the street, and the guy doesn’t even seem very excited about saving $4 at the local car wash. But, you asked for it, so we’ve provided the video after the jump for your enjoyment (or indifference). Power to the people! Thanks for the tip, everyone!

Tanner tests his Top Gear skills on the Lambo Reventon

One-third of American Top Gear, Tanner Foust, spent a day in the Lamborghini Reventon, and here’s his verdict: “Thumbs up big girl!” The fractional bit of additional horsepower didn’t mean much to him, but he did say the brakes were more capable, and, surprise, the car is quite wide and people like to stare at it. After six hours on Italy’s B-roads, that basically sums up his impressions. Since he didn’t have too much to say in print, we really do hope he’s saving the zingers for the show…
